blue period

Today was a blue jeans kind of day. Blue jeans and gray pumps more specifically. Not sure if this all goes together, but it's Friday. I'm sure you all understand, right? Tomorrow, I head off to NYC. The main reason why we're even going there is because of some raw food restaurants, including Pure Food & Wine. Boston = not so much a haven for aspiring raw foodists.

#hashtagchat

For those who didn't know, I dabble a bit with web and graphic design on the side. I recently put together a quick site and logo (very minimalistic and only one page) for a small application we put out a few nights ago called Hashtag Chat. In a nutshell, if you are on Twitter (which you should be), you can use Hashtag Chat to chat with whomever on any topic. Just type in the hashtag as a subdomain (ie monkeys.hashtagchat.com) to tweet with other tweeps on stuff like nutella to primates to architecture. The magical part is that Hashtag Chat is like a live chat--new tweets show up automatically without refreshing the page, so in that sense it's kind of reminiscent of an IM window. Neat?

Anyway, this entry may have deviated a bit from the usual subject matter of this blog, but I've always seen design (even web and graphic design), style and fashion intimately connected and driven by aesthetics. Take for example, Processing, which will be my next personal learning project. It's a programming language that combines art and code like . . . this. No worries though, more daily outfits to come pronto.

dock 7

We were walking down one of the side streets near our place and the lighting was perfect, not to mention the street was eerily abandoned and beautiful. This street in particular was mostly lined with docking stations surrounded by more warehouses, brownstones, and factories. I thought the naive flirty lace dress contrasted the stark environment well. Also, pardon the death stare in each and every one of these photos. Frigid weather compounded with the stress and lack of sleep from school and my side projects = death stare.

art imitating life

We all remember the infamous falls at Prada's Spring 2009 RTW collection. The skyscraper heels and little sock booties made for a terrible combination as Sigrid, Stam, Katie Fogarty, and more made small--and some not so small--stumbles across the curvy catwalk. I remember thinking, "So what? They're just shoes, for crying out loud!" But secretly I was fascinated. I was fascinated with the frailty of perfection. I was fascinated by the flawless clothes, with flawless lights and makeup on flawless creatures contrasted with catastrophic flawed falls. I hope that I don't sound like a horrible person, but falling at a Miuccia Prada show? C'est trop horrible! Now a photo shoot for the March 2009 issue of L’Officiel mag is imitating what went down (pun-y, sorry) at Prada last season.
