downpour

One of my best friends gave me this blue Uniqlo dress shirt. She told me with a slightly exasperated tone, “you always wear black.” I believe that was her hint to me to incorporate more of the colour spectrum into my wardrobe. Of course, I’ve failed her and wore this today with black leather pants, a black silk sash, black bow hairband and black clutch. Sorry hun, I really did try.

Cute little story follows:

So I wore this on my way for a morning cup of coffee. It was pouring but undeniably beautiful out. The lighting was nice so I asked the boyf to snap a few before leaving. I opened the door and jumped into the rain. He then closed the door behind me and started snapping photos from inside through the window. Oh man, cracked me up! People walking by seriously thought I was off the rocker jumping around in the rain by myself. RAIN IS FUN.

give me your best sunset

I've been busy to tears lately so please do pardon the eye bags and the overall disheveled demeanor. On the plus side, the air was wondrous today. Yes, even the polluted city air. I breathed it all in. Don't be surprised if I wake up tomorrow with Black Lung.

I picked up this top at H&M after being blown away by the sunset and ocean print. I threw on some orange socks to bring out the orange in the shirt and topped it all off with my DIY spiked bag. OK, now I promise to go get some sleep. Zzz.

Wearing my DIY fringe tights, a monochrome floral shirt and a bandage dress. Monochrome and basics feel so good (I think the last photo conveys this sentiment best).

Congrats to Shini! I'll be shipping the necklace to her. She wrote me a love letter/email. I clearly had NO choice! Jokes aside though, I know she'll rock it crazy. Mad respect for her.

monday: diy giveaway

Look what I found in my closet today . . . this necklace was made from the remnants of a vintage rhinestone necklace, satin ribbon and spike beads. I made this to play around with the whole ribbon and rhinestone combination, kind of a like an experiment and in the hopes of recreating something more everyday-wearable but still luxurious like those luscious Lanvin ribbon necklaces. Ah, still so much to learn.

I'll select a comment as the next owner of this fun little piece.

DIY in progress: leather disc jacket

My room reeks heavily of leather because of this giant box of scrap leather pieces, but I don't mind it so much because it smells of DIY productivity! For the past few days I've been tracing and cutting leather discs, cutting smaller holes within each disc, and sewing them onto a cardigan. My fingers feel a bit tender from the prying and cutting, but I'm convincing myself that it'll be worth it in the end when I have re-created this for far less than $320. MUAHAHA.

I've also cut enough leather discs for 2 of these jackets. So when the time comes, I'll be giving one away to a reader. Together we can prance around in genuine leather smelliness.

Just a preview of the jacket I've started and my big face. Many more blistered fingers to go.

sunday: denimology

Today was: white wall, denim, uncombed hair, fringe boots, an unsaturated Sunday. I put on some ripped up cropped denim shorts, my fringe booties that I'm wearing for the first time, and my favourite part, a white bed sheet tied up and contorted to add some shape and volume. Alright, I'm just kidding about the bed sheet part. The top is actually from what I believe to be a Korean brand, Baking Soda. I did a Google search and was unsuccessful at finding any more details. A shame because I love the minimalist aesthetic, the material, and form factor (even if it looks like a bed sheet). Give me a bed sheet over a form-fitting t shirt any day!

Finally, the winner of the last DIY giveaway is Fifi. She wrote the most unexpected haiku about the embellished tights and I loved it. I'll be shipping it off soon! I'm also in the works of a genuine leather disc jacket (styled after the Topshop one I spied several months ago but couldn't afford with its $320 price tag, sigh). More details about this DIY project in the next entry!

thursday: DIY embellished tights giveaway

I've been cutting circular discs out of leather nearly the whole day for a new DIY project I've been working on. I'm slowly drowning myself in them and my room is starting to reek of leather. I'll probably have it done and posted on here early next week!

Soo the weather really has been perfect for thigh-skimming dresses, light chiffon, anything baring the skin. Unfortunately, I have 10+ mosquito bites on my legs (due to a recent trip up north) and clearly the bites are on steroids--they've blown up to the width of footballs and baseballs. Hence, through the best summer days I'm stuck wearing tights, leggings and suffocating jeans. Fail.

DIY GIVEAWAY

Today, I threw on a pair of embellished tights for an easy cover-up. The tights have fragile little organza flowers each topped off with a pearl sewn onto them. Anyway, I'm giving these tights away, so leave a comment and I'll select one as the winner. I recently did a DIY giveaway and I really enjoyed it, let's keep it going. Good luck lovelies!

saturday: seeing stars

I picked up this little vintage star print number during the winter and only recently have gone around to altering it. It came with the puffiest long sleeves and the hem ran all the way down to mid-calf. It was star overload . . . literally seeing stars. I chopped the sleeves off and the excess from the hem. The dress has a far more contemporary fit and I believe it has a lot of mix-and-match potential now.

Anyway, I'm currently in Maine. We were driving back from a dance party around 2am and the highway and streets were completely dark and empty, the only light from the crescent moon overhead. Morrissey was playing and it was just us and the car weaving down the smooth dark road. It was truly magical. I also tasted the freshest homemade orange marmalade and breathed some great air. It really is nice to get away from the city once in a while. Enjoy the weekend lovelies. xx.

golden night

Gold dress, tuxedo blazer, oversized bow on my head, Chanel in hand, and the night to be conquered!
