Sleep is for the weak

I could write about the happenings of the last several days but that would involve causing you and me pain, so I think I'll stay away from that. These few words will give you the gist, however: IV caffeine, growing muffin tops, and adopting a polyphasic sleep schedule (alternating with a no-sleep schedule). Apparently polyphasic sleep is referred to as "napping in extreme situations" that the US Military, Canadian Marine Pilots, the Italian Air Force and NASA resort to in times of crisis and/or other extreme conditions. This makes me hardcore.

In other news, I've been able to make a few things too in between sleep and zombie-studying, one of them a spike hairband that I'm wearing in these photos. I love it so. I'm also sporting my new pair of favourite pants. They're faux leather and I think I want to live in them.

Stay sane ladies.

#2 pencils

I am alive and well. I'm still makings things and I'm still wearing clothes (haa) -- I just haven't had the time to document it the past week.

This is all because I have tragically metamorphosed into a test-taking monster (RAWR!) having taken 6 exams last week and studying for 3 more this week and another 3 more the week after. Don't feel bad for me, it's just I wanted to share the reason I've been a bit absent despite me thinking about blogging nearly every minute of my day.

To those who aren't filling in Scan-tron bubbles with #2 pencils this summer, please frolic in some fields, make some daisy headbands, splash your toes in cold lake water, bike in a vintage cruiser in a summer dress with a basket full of fresh hydrangeas for me. Then send me a postcard. It'll make me happy :o)

Lastly, the sweetie over at Green Zebra Studio featured me in her recent blog entry. Thanks!

this one's for my headband

Very soon I'll be switching to a new D-SLR, the Nikon D90. I've been using an old D70 for all my shots and with its now-puny 6 megapixels, occasional fringing, moiré pattern effects, wacky white balance issues, and a microscopic LCD display, it's time to move on. My new camera, not only will offer 12.3 megapixels (Phosphene Fashion, now featuring Sophia's pores and sebaceous glands), but it has the added feature of digital video. Maybe some vlogging might be fun?

Not too sure why I even put together this entry. Maybe I just wanted to take another photo of my new favourite headband? Probably.

Daily outfit: take a bow

This summer, Boston has been rather somber. Everything looks and feels unsaturated and slightly tinged with blue and gray. An umbrella and jacket have become staples to my summer outfits. As strange as it seems, I love it. The city is quieter and it allows me to be a bit more pensive. A large mug of coffee and some good music is really all I need on these kind of days.

Today comprised of exam taking, running about in the rain, making mock ups for a new idea, lots of coffee (IV caffeine anyone?), and the most delicious frozen yogurt ever.

Wearing: men's sweater, bamboo jersey scarf, H&M bandage dress, H&M headband, opaque tights, and caged booties from eBay.

A week of rain ahead of me. Air's "Left Bank" is playing on repeat and it's absolutely perfect. The entire album epitomizes auditory perfection with occasional shamisen and koto accents.

I also want to make something like this 1to3 asphalt ribbon tee for the boy, and he better love it!

Alright, somewhat of a lackluster post, but I really wanted to do a quick check-in between classes in my attempts to be a better and more present blogger! Now it's back to the drone of the PowerPoint.

Four eyes

I love this pair of frames. I am convinced that with these glasses my IQ is 50 points higher. They were purchased at Fabulous Fanny's in East Village. If you're looking for a sweet selection of vintage, vintage-inspired, and new old stock frames, you can't go wrong with Fab Fanny's. Can't wait to go again.

Worn here with an H&M dress, vintage coat, vintage belt, and thrifted shoes.

Reminder: I'm doing a giveaway for an Elizabeth and James tee. You still have until this Thursday, so go ahead and submit a comment in the previous post!

Give it away: Elizabeth and James

Phew, I'm finally back from a rather torturous week of practicals and exams. Last night I was able to catch up on sleep and it was fantastic. I LOVE YOU SLEEP. Talking about things I love, I'm really loving this Elizabeth and James deconstructed tee! Annnnd thanks to chickdowntown.com (they also have a droolworthy selection of Jill Stuart, Rag & Bone, DVF clothing--anyone want to get me the Camel Damani dress?--and Current Elliot denim), I'll be giving this shirt away to one of my lucky readers. Woot!

All you have to do is leave a comment answering these 2 questions:
  1. Name a song that has either "Elizabeth" or "James" in the lyrics. If you can find it online (youtube, last.fm...) post the link so we can all hear it!
  2. How would you style an outfit with this tee?

Some other details:
  • Include your contact info (email, your website...) so I can get in touch with you if selected. You may also email me your email address if you desire.
  • No international shipping. Sorry overseas readers!
  • A winner will be selected based on best response Thursday, June 18th (1 week from now).
Good luck lovelies.

EDIT: Congrats to Lindsey who won the shirt! Kudos for her Camera Obscura mention and the cute outfit she put together.

You've been gifted

I made this necklace a little while back and it's just been sitting on my work desk collecting dust. I've actually made a bunch of stuff and all of it has just been collecting dust, and, really, it makes me a little sad. What do I do with all these half-decent projects? Throw them out? Give them as bday gifts? Perhaps they'll just collect more dust. So when my dear friend (she actually recently started blogging, so stop by and say hi!) said she had been searching for a necklace just like it, I said, "Take it!!"

So today I wrapped the necklace up. I found a box and re-used some grocery paper bags as wrapping and then topped it all off with a grosgrain ribbon bow.

And this all made me ultra happy. So I've decided this:

I will start posting projects I've been working on / finished that I'd like to just give away. It can range anywhere from headbands, garments, accessories, whatever my hands are making at the moment. It'll be a learning experience for me and a reader may even like it enough to wear it! Win-win. Far far better than letting stuff I make collect dust.

So how will you decide who gets the posted item?
After I post an item, I may throw out a song lyric or a book quote to be identified, a question to be answered, or something like "the most creative comment gets the dress." It will vary with each post, but it's meant to encourage creative thinking and for some good laughs. I don't care if only 2 people respond, I'll just pick the response I enjoyed the most.

Wait, how am I going to get the item?
I'll completely cover shipping unless it's international shipping. I'm really too broke to cover that. If it's international, then I'll discuss a solution with you (maybe splitting cost 50/50?)

Alright, that's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

Design for all. xx.
